A 58-year-old Man, Ryan Routh who attempted to assassinate the former United States President, Donald Trump has been taken into custody by the authorities.
He appeared calm as he sat handcuffed in the back of a police car after he was arrested by authorities in Florida on Sunday afternoon, September 15, 2024.
The picture first published by Fox News showed Ryan in a t-shirt and dark pants with his hands cuffed behind his back after he allegedly brought an AK-47-style rifle along Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach and waited to take him out.He appeared unfazed in the image, which backs up what Martin County Sheriff William Snyder earlier said about the Routh’s behavior during a press briefing.
Snyder said Routh was “relatively calm” during the detainment.
“Was not displaying a lot of emotion,” he told WPLG. “Never asked ‘what is this about?”.
The Secret Service said its agents were accompanying Trump on the golf course, when one who was securing holes ahead of Trump spotted a gun barrel in some bushes near the property line.
Multiple agents engaged the gunman and fired at least four rounds at him. The gunman then dropped his AK-47 style rifle, two backpacks, a GoPro camera and other items and fled in a black Nissan car.
Palm Beach County sheriff Ric Bradshaw said a witness managed to take a photo of the suspected gunman’s car and license plate and gave it to authorities.
Though, Routh has a long criminal history but his son reportedly said later Sunday he doesn’t think his father is violent.
He was convicted in 2022 of possessing a weapon of mass destruction.
On social media, the suspected wanna-be assassin attacked Trump as a threat to democracy.
Meanwhile, no charges have been filed yet in the case.
Routh’s alleged assassination is the second attempt on the Republican presidential nominee’s life in just three months.
Recall that Mr Trump was grazed by a bullet in July during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania after Thomas Matthew Crooks shot at him from a nearby rooftop.
Crooks, 20, was killed by the Secret Service during the mayhem
