The Nigeria Police Force has reassured Nigerians of its readiness to safeguard lives and property, announcing enhanced security measures across the country in response to rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the Force remains fully committed to maintaining national peace and stability, stressing that Nigeria’s internal security situation remains firmly under control.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police said proactive, intelligence-led policing strategies have been reinforced nationwide to prevent any potential security threats linked to global developments.
Disu directed Commissioners of Police in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to intensify surveillance, enhance intelligence gathering, and strengthen collaboration with traditional and religious leaders.
The directive places particular emphasis on the North West, North East, and North Central regions, with police formations instructed to boost visibility policing around worship centres, public spaces, and other critical locations.
The police leadership also warned against any attempt by individuals or groups to exploit international tensions to incite unrest or sectarian divisions within Nigeria.
“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates that Nigeria will not serve as a theatre for foreign conflicts. Any attempt to import external ideological or religious tensions into the country will be met with the full weight of the law,” the statement said.
The IGP urged community leaders across the country to continue promoting peaceful coexistence, while calling on citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.
He also encouraged Nigerians to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation, assuring that the Force remains resolute and prepared to respond swiftly to any threats to national security.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens and preserving peace across the country amid evolving global security concerns.
