Anambra Police Arrested Four Suspected Armed Robbers, Kidnappers, Recover Firearms

Ovperatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu arrested four male suspects involved in armed robbery and kidnapping in Amansea, Awka, on September 1, 2025. The operation, conducted in the early hours, led to the recovery of two pump-action guns and nine live cartridges.

The suspects, identified as Chigozie Igboekwu, 31; Odumegwu Chibuike, 23; Jonah Awudu, 40; and Okechukwu Nwari, 33, confessed to kidnapping two victims on August 12, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m. in Amansea. According to police reports, the suspects held the victims for two days in a bush in Ugwuoba, Enugu State, and collected a ransom of N5,000,000 before releasing them.

The case, initially reported at B Division Awka on August 14, 2025, was transferred to the RRS for further investigation. Acting on credible intelligence, the squad executed the arrests, dealing a blow to the criminal syndicate.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their dedication and reiterated the Command’s commitment to eliminating crime and ensuring the safety of residents. “We remain resolute in our mission to rid Anambra of criminal elements,” he stated.

The suspects are set to face charges upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations, with efforts intensifying to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
