A 29-Year-Old Man, Joseph Yakubu, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command for allegedly killing his father, Yakubu Dalyop, with a pestle.
Yakubu was said to have picked a pestle and hit his father during a disagreement.
This led to the victim’s unconsciousness and eventual death.
The Suspect who committed the act in the Anglo-Jos community, Jos South Local Government Area of the state was among other suspects paraded for various offences on Tuesday by the state Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet, at the command’s headquarters in Jos.
The commissioner said, “On 20/02/2024 at about 6pm, information was received at the Anglo-Jos division by a good Samaritan that on 15/02/2024 at about 8pm, one Joseph Yakubu, male, 29yrs of Kambel Anglo-Jos had a minor misunderstanding with his father, one Yakubu Dalyop aged 49yrs.
“As a result, the son took a pounding pestle and hit the father on the head. The father became unconscious and was rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention.
“Unfortunately, he died on 19/02/2024 at about 1pm while receiving treatment. The suspect has been arrested while the corpse was deposited at the same hospital mortuary”
The commissioner said the case was still under investigation and the suspect would be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The commissioner said after studying the security situation In the state, he had designed a new operational template for the command which would flush out criminals from their nests across the state.
He said the application of the new operational strategies within a few weeks in office had started yielding positive results with the arrest of criminals paraded for criminal conspiracy, trespass, disturbance of public peace, kidnapping, and culpable homicide
He assured the people of adequate protection of their lives and property while soliciting their support and cooperation to achieve the objective.
