Tragedy struck the Limawa area of Minna, Niger State, as a man allegedly beat his pregnant wife to death, prompting outrage and swift police intervention.
A man has allegedly beaten his pregnant wife to death in the Limawa area of Minna, the capital of Niger State.

The tragic event happened on Tuesday evening and quickly drew the attention of neighbours. People around the area said they heard loud cries coming from the couple’s home, which made them rush over to check what was going on.

Unfortunately, by the time they got there, the woman was already dead.

According to SaharaReporters, the identity of the woman has not yet been confirmed by authorities. However, residents described the situation as very sad and troubling. They also claimed that the man, believed to be her husband, had a history of beating her.

“This is not the first time he has laid hands on the woman. We have warned him several times, but he continued. Now he has killed her,” one community member said.

The man was reportedly arrested shortly after the incident and is now in police custody while investigations continue. When the media contacted the Police Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Command, Wasiu Abiodun, he said he needed some time to collect the full details. As of the time the report was written, he had not yet given any updates.

In a related case that happened earlier this year, SaharaReporters also reported how a woman named Fatima Dzuma allegedly killed her husband in Lafiyagi Dzwafu village, located in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.

A resident of the village said Baba, the deceased, married Dzuma three years ago after she left her first husband. The couple had no children together, but Dzuma had one child from her earlier marriage. Around that time, Baba’s first wife had just given birth, and the family was preparing for the child’s naming ceremony.

Dzuma reportedly confessed that she murdered her husband because she “no longer liked him.” She allegedly used a scarf to strangle him while he was asleep. After that, she hit him twice on the head and once on the hand with a pestle, breaking his hand.

After killing h him, she wrapped his body in a mat and dragged it to the backyard. She also cleaned the blood from the room and, for three days, acted as if she didn’t know where he was. His family was already searching everywhere.

Eventually, Dzuma confessed, saying, “I acted alone.”
