Be Brave Enough” Senator Shehu Sani Tells Nigerians What To Do Over Senate Rejection Of Transmission Of Results

Senator Shehu Sani has enjoined Nigerians displeased with the senate’s rejection of mandatory live transmission of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop throwing tantrum at the senate president, Godswill Akpabio.

The Nigeria’s senate, on February 4th, passed the 2026 Electoral Amendment Bill and declined to alter Clause 60, Subsection 3 of the bill to make real-time transmission of results by INEC mandatory.

The development has sparked reactions on Nigeria’s social media community with many blaming the leadership of the senate, particularly Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of botching the electoral amendment bill to undermine the credibility of the 2027 general elections by making it vulnerable to be manipulated by the incumbent leadership.

Hence, reacting to the buzz the bill has generated, senator Shehu Sani advised those who feel displeased with the outcome of the electoral amendment bill to rather than accusing senate president Akpabio of masterminding the rejection of real-live transmission of results, be courageous enough to confront the senators representing their senatorial districts in their various states.

Senator Shehu Sani through his X account, told those aggrieved by the development to focus their anger on the senators representing their constituencies and not the Senate president who also is a representative of his own senatorial district.

“If you like what they did or you don’t like what they did, you should be courageous enough to go to the social media handle of the lawmaker representing your constituency and express your happiness or bitterness.

“Don’t focus on the President or Akpabio, who is just representing a district in Akwa Ibom. Be brave enough to mention your Senator by name on your handle. Everyone is an adult there. Thank you for your attention to this matter”, he wrote

While the vast majority of the Nigerians believe that real-time transmission of results from the polling units by INEC will boost the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process especially due to the alleged inconsistency in the 2023 presidential election, some lawmakers argue that mandating the electoral umpire to transmit election results digitally, will make the process vulnerable to hacking as well as the issues of glitch which can undermine the process the process.
