The TUC president Festus Osifo said this on Tuesday in Abuja. Noting that a communique will be issued shortly, the labour chief said Labour leaders had a successful meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, and other government officials on Monday and reached a resolution that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was committed to a new minimum wage higher than N60,000.
Today at a meeting with FG Tripartite Committee scheduled by 10am, Labour suspended its strike.
The strike suspension to allow uninterrupted meetings with the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage. Recall that the SGF, George Akume promised that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to paying higher than N60,000 as the minimum wage.
He also assured that no worker would face repercussions for participating in the strike and that the tripartite committee would convene daily for the next week to finalize the new minimum wage.
With this development, every government and private offices are expected to reopen and function as usual.
