Buhari Explains How Instability In Libya Is Responsible For Banditry, Terrorism In Nigeria, Defends Disbursement of N1.15Bn For 10 SUVs For Niger Republic

President Buhari has blamed banditry and terrorism in Nigeria on the political instability in Libya.

Buhari said his administration was making efforts towards tackling banditry and terrorism in Nigeria.He spoke while receiving the letters of credence from the new Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador James Kingston Christoff and Ambassador of Mexico to Nigeria, Juan Alfred Miranda Oritz, at the State House in Abuja, on Tuesday.

The President also urged the international communities to collaborate with Nigeria in tackling insecurity.

He disclosed that his administration had made meaningful progress in the fight against insecurity. “The political instability in Libya continues to fuel terrorism in the Sahel, West and Central African regions.

“Nigeria is not left out of the equation as we are fighting to rid our country of banditry, kidnapping, herder/farmer clashes and insurgency.

“We are, however, making meaningful progress with the support of friendly countries like yours to sustain this fight until we overcome these challenges,” he said. Lately, the activities of banditry increased in Nigeria. The Northern part of Nigeria has been the most affected by the situation

However Buhari has approved the purchase of vehicles worth N1.4billion for Niger Republic. Yes, for Niger Republic.

President Buhari said it was for security. To enhance security in Nigeria republic. Yes, to enhance security in Niger Republic.

This is while the Nigerian police and other security structures in Nigeria remain handicapped due to limited availability of security equipment and basic welfare.

The Federal Government, on Wednesday, justified the disbursement of N1.15bn for the purchase of 10 SUVs for the Republic of Niger.

The government said that the move is to enable the country to safeguard its territory in the best interest of Nigeria’s security.

Fielding questions from State House Correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Buhari, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, said it was not the first time Nigeria is supporting her neighbours. She argued that the President had a responsibility to make such decisions “in the best interests of the country”.

A report published on Wednesday revealed that the President,  approved N1.15bn to purchase 10 Toyota Land Cruiser V8 vehicles for the Nigerien government.

The record which was sourced from the ‘appropriations’ page of the Ministry’s website showed that in July 2022, N1,145,000,000 was approved for payment to Kaura Motors Nigeria Limited to supply the SUVs.

It also revealed that the President had okayed the disbursement since February 2022.
