Court Set Oct 27th 2025 For Judgement On Alleged Murder Of Late Inspector In Rivers

The Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has fixed October 27, 2025 for judgment in the murder trial of twelve individuals accused of killing a female police officer in Khana Local Government Area.

Trial Judge, Justice Augusta Chukwu, announced the date after the adoption of final written addresses by both the prosecution and defence counsel.

Our Correspondent who was in court today reports that counsel to the defendants while submitting their final written addresses, urged the court to discharge and acquit their clients, citing lack of sufficient evidence and alleged contradictions in the testimonies of prosecution witnesses.

However, prosecution counsel, Celestine Dickson beseeched the court to convict the defendants of conspiracy and murder- maintaining that the defendants had earlier made alleged confessional statements.

In the meantime, the Officer in Charge of the Police Legal Department in Rivers State, CSP Stephen Onwuchie, appeared before the court following a summon over the police’s failure to release seized items, including a car belonging to some of the defendants.

CSP Onwuchie confirmed during proceedings that the seized items had since been released to the defendants.

The twelve defendants are facing trial for the alleged killing of a female police inspector during a stop-and-search operation at the Taaba Divisional Police checkpoint in Khana Local Government Area in 2024.
