DISC Project: Boosting Women Reproductive Confidence With Free Self-inject Family Planning Contraceptives

Women in Rivers State have been offered free opportunity to choose their Reproductive health care with the introduction of self injection contraceptive amongst several choices
The new self injection contraceptive which was introduced in 2022 in seven local government areas of the state have spread to the 23 LGA with growing testimony of women preferring the self inject method over others because of fewer side effects

Speaking to news men at DISC project impact dissemination in Rivers state,, the executive secretary Rivers State primary health care management Board Dr Kinikanwo Green said health care providers/communicators have scaled up community perception of self inject methods with the acceptance yielding uptake across diverse groups.

He thanked the various partners supporting Rivers state government ” you will see that by the time family planning is effectively done it will reduce the effect of maternal morbidity and mortality. it also help to improve the socioeconomic of the woman. because that mothers that is on contraceptive exudes confidence to go all out to compete in any career, so there are a lot of advantages that family planning can confer

Dr Kinikanwo said in addition to training women who are now empowered to make reproductive choices, like when and how many children they can have while attending to career needs, competing favourable in any male dominated field. the state primary healthcare facilities have trained health workers to give empathetic counseling on self-inject and other family planning methods

He said training and retraining of capable staff is boosting confidence in overcoming clients fears. as most testifiers had reveal that they where better and well able to manage the self-inject methods which they say have fewer or non side effects.


Also speaking to Newsmen at the DISC dissemination training the Deputy team lead DISC project Society for family health Mopelola Raji said self inject have empowered women to take responsibility for their own Reproduction with supportive and empathetic counseling

She noted that delivering Innovation in self -care (DISC) is a five year project plan funded by the Children’s investment fund foundation(CIFF) aimed to demonstrate that selfcare pragmatic approach beginning with contraceptives’ self-injection is a viable cornerstone of bursting clients fear of pain and self efficacy.

Our correspondent reports that the highlight of the event includes awards of excellence to the commissioner and and executive secretary of Primary health care management Board Dr Kinikanwo Green for outstanding partnership.
