The Cross River State House of Assembly has successfully impeached the Speaker; Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem. The motion was moved by Hon. Effiom Ekarika representing Calabar South 1 Constituency and seconded by Hon. Omang Charles Omang representing Bekwarra State Constituency.
The speaker was impeached on the following grounds:
1.Gross financial misconduct
2.Incompetence and wrong conduct of plenary proceedings
3.Noncompliance with the Cross River State Legislature funds management Law 2021 May 22, 4.Total failure to conduct leadership meetings.
The motion of impeachment was signed by 19 out of the 25 members of the Assembly. As at the time of this report the impeached speaker is yet to comment on the matter.
