Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) shortly after being released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to report by Premium Times reports. El-Rufai, who was granted bail at around 8 p.m., was reportedly ambushed by DSS officials at the EFCC headquarters.
The arrest is linked to allegations that El-Rufai unlawfully intercepted the phone communications of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.
On Monday, the State Security Service (SSS) filed cybercrime charges against El-Rufai at the Federal High Court in Abuja, citing the same alleged unlawful interception.
The case was filed just three days after El-Rufai claimed in a live interview on Arise TV that the NSA’s phone conversation had been intercepted.
During the interview, which focused on his recent airport encounter, he said he heard the NSA allegedly directing security operatives to detain him.
This latest development adds to a series of legal challenges facing El-Rufai, who has been under investigation by multiple federal agencies.
The unfolding situation highlights the intersection of high-level security, political influence, and legal accountability in Nigeria, as authorities continue to pursue the allegations against the former governor.
