Edo State Govt Laments Influx Of Prostitutes Along Red Light Areas, Set Up Committee To Tackle Ihama, Boundary & GRA Hotspots
Edo State government is making moves to eradicate prostitution and similar public nuisances in the State. This was stated after an Executive Council Meeting held during the week.
The EXCO meeting was headed by Edo State acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu. Shaibu decried the spate of prostitution currently ongoing in the city metropolis, adding that it was a worrisome development. We gathered that the government decried the conversion of night clubs and lounges to places for prostitution as well as conversion of the areas in the vicinity to a red light district. We also learnt that the EXCO has set up a committee headed by Isoken Omo, the Commissioner for Physical planning, urban and regional development to advice the council with a view to ensuring that the state laws on anti-prostitution, human trafficking and illicit drugs take effect.
The committee would be saddled with the responsibility of enumerating the private and commercial houses along identified prostitution hotspots. Hotspots identified at the meeting include Ihama, Boundary and Country Home Roads in GRA.
