Enugu Police Arrest 4 Suspected Armed Robbers Including Firearms Fabricator, Recover Weapons, Drugs

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested four male suspects in a series of coordinated operations targeting armed robbery, illegal firearm possession, cultism, and drug trafficking. The operations also led to the recovery of two firearms and quantities of marijuana, popularly known as “Loud.”

According to a statement issued on May 14, 2025, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrests reflect the sustained offensive against criminal elements led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.

On May 9, operatives of the Crack Tactical Squad arrested one Ikechukwu Ugwele, alias ‘Angle 90,’ aged 35, and recovered a Beretta pistol following the earlier recovery of substances suspected to be Loud,” Ndukwe stated. “The suspect confessed to multiple criminal activities and led officers to the location where the firearm was hidden.”

In a separate operation conducted on May 8, officers from the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested 25-year-old Emmanuel Eze, alias “Camara,” and recovered a locally made pistol. His arrest came after confessions by two other suspects — Uchenna Nwudi (29), who admitted to being a firearms fabricator, and Eze Chiadikobi (32), who is allegedly involved in transformer vandalism. All three suspects are said to be members of the Vikings Confraternity.

“These arrests are a clear message that criminality will not go unpunished in Enugu State,” CP Giwa said. “We will continue to pursue unrepentant criminals with unwavering resolve until our communities are safe and secure.”

The police confirmed that all the suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of ongoing investigations.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to public safety, CP Giwa highlighted the progress made since he assumed office in March. “As of May 8, we have arrested 291 suspects, including 42 for armed robbery, 33 for kidnapping, 12 for murder, and 44 for cultism. We have also rescued 36 kidnapped victims and recovered 44 firearms and 173 rounds of ammunition,” he stated during a recent press briefing.

SP Ndukwe urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant. “The fight against crime is a collective responsibility. We urge citizens to continue providing useful information that can aid the police in tracking down criminal elements,” he said.

The Enugu State Police Command reiterated its readiness to act decisively against any threats to public peace and safety.
