The Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga is dead.
Until her shocking demise, Onanuga represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency.
Though details of her death were still sketchy as at press time, she was said to have passed on after a brief illness at the age of 60..
The Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi, reportedly announced Onanuga’s passing in a statement on Wednesday night.
Born on December 2, 1965, in Hammersmith, London, to Nigerian parents, Onanuga had a distinguished career as a politician and entrepreneur. She first won her seat in the House of Representatives in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In 2023, she was appointed Deputy Chief Whip, a role in which she demonstrated her commitment to effective legislative governance.
During her tenure, Onanuga also served as chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development. She was a vocal advocate for gender equality and societal welfare, championing key policies aimed at empowering women and improving social infrastructure.
