I have honestly refrained from jumping on this conversation first because I was gathering facts and asking questions and secondly, because lives were lost in the tragic accident.
We can’t be careless and unfortunate at the same time with our reactions when families and friends are in mourning. May God comfort them all.
Here’s my take.
This is the scene of the accident.
1. The road is not a pothole -ridden one as many of you have claimed. This road is better than many I have seen abroad (your saner climes)
2. The truck was not broken down and parked on the road as many of you claim. The truck was on the distress lane. Should the truck have been there? I don’t know but it definitely was not on the road. The accident occurred when the vehicle in question veered off the road and rammed into the truck on the distress lane. Why did it happen ? I don’t know.
3. First responders.
Nigerians were on ground immediately and so were the Federal Road Safety Corp officers who arrived within minutes having been patrolling nearby. They met Nigerians already on the ground trying to rescue the accident victims. I heard that without even knowing who the occupants of the vehicle were, Nigerians (typically) gave their best.
All these “Nigeria happened to them” talk on social media and off it, is bunkum! It is called an accident, damn it! They happen everyday even in your saner climes!
Wrapping your hatred for your country, your bigotry and ethnicity around this unfortunate incident does not make you look or sound intelligent- and this applies to you as a politician or a citizen of the Federal Republic….I’m being very mild with my choice of words.
If you don’t have the facts, chew a gum and save us this embarrassment !
