The Civil-Military Police and Paramilitary Relations CIMPPAR-NIGERIA, has expressed shock over the press station credited to the Rivers state police command abdicating constitutional responsibility towards the coming 5th of October 2024 local government election in Rivers State.
CIMPPAR-NIGERIA, is network that is focused on rebuilding, reconciliation of Citizens Relations with security Agencies while reporting and documenting issues of Human Rights abuses and acting as watchdogs on issues of Security and other interventions.
To this end “We at CIMPPAR-NIGERIA, forsee chaos tomorrow Saturday. 5th Oct 2024 However, this can be avoided if only the Police in our state can be mindful of the kind of partisanship they play in this particular case. By Law RSIEC is a creation of the Rivers State House of Assembly just as INEC is a creation of NASS.
A Federal High Court has no right to meddle into the jurisdiction of state matters with frivolous orders from petty politicians who means no good for the state in the name of stopping a process that has a timeline as ruled by the Supreme Court.
To say am dissatisfied or disappointed on the statements above by the Police is understatement.
These type of developments and many more reasons are why we from the Civil Society always call on the police to be neutral.
As law enforcement agencies, why will u be aiding and abating illegalities.
We are really disappointed
