If You Try To Sabotage Me, I Will Take You Out”– Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to individuals or groups attempting to undermine his administration’s reforms and development agenda in Abuja, particularly as it relates to the management of public assets.

During an inspection tour of the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja on Saturday, Wike reaffirmed his commitment to restoring the prestigious golf facility to its former standard, stating categorically that the property remains under the ownership of the Federal Government of Nigeria and would not be surrendered to private interests.

“We will not allow anyone to take what belongs to the Federal Government. No amount of blackmail or intimidation will make me change course. If you try to sabotage me, I will take you out,” Wike declared emphatically.

The minister’s comments come against the backdrop of a deepening crisis at the Abuja Golf Club, which led to its indefinite shutdown. The dispute reportedly centers on structural reforms and disagreements over the appointment of an interim management committee, which was put in place by the FCT Administration to oversee the club’s affairs pending full restructuring.

According to Wike, the decision to appoint an interim management was necessary due to the inefficiency historically associated with government-managed institutions. However, he noted that this temporary leadership must operate within the confines of the government’s mandate and not assume ownership of the club.

“Government is not known for being the best manager of businesses, which is why we appointed an interim committee. But that does not give anyone the license to take over the club. You were appointed to manage, not to own,” he emphasized.

Clubhouse Renovation and Ground Rent Obligations

Wike also announced plans to renovate and upgrade the clubhouse facilities to enhance the standard of the recreational space. However, he made it clear that the club must fulfill its financial obligations to the government.

He specifically pointed to the ground rent, which he described as non-negotiable. The minister warned that if the management of the club fails to settle its outstanding dues, the government would not hesitate to seal off the premises.

“We are ready to rehabilitate the clubhouse, but the institution must pay its ground rent. If they refuse, we will seal the place. There’s no compromise on that,” he stated.

A Message of Zero Tolerance for Mismanagement

The former Rivers State governor, known for his no-nonsense leadership style, has continued to take bold steps in overhauling the administrative and infrastructural landscape of the FCT since assuming office. His latest remarks reflect a broader commitment to reclaiming public assets and ensuring accountability in their use and management.

Wike’s tough stance is expected to send a strong message to institutions operating on federal land across the territory underscoring the importance of compliance with government policies, transparency, and responsible stewardship of public infrastructure.
