(1) The attention of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council has been drawn to a purported claim in some quarters that the Old press center of the Union located along Port Harcourt Road has been sold or put up for sale.
(2) Imo NUJ as a Union want to state categorically that the Said union’s property located along Port Harcourt Road is not for sale because as property donated to Imo NUJ by Imo State Government, the Title is not transferable. The claim in a section of the media that the facility was either sold or leased is at best a figment of the imagination of the peddlers of such falsehood.
(3) It’s pertinent to note that every state council property belongs to the National Secretariat of the Union and the least the National Secretariat can approve is lease. And at the moment, no such approval has been secured from either the National Secretariat or any other authority.
(4) The lease of any NUJ property Nationwide lies within the purview of the National Secretariat to determine or approve such lease.
(5) Let it be made vividly clear that Imo Old NUJ Press Center located along Port Harcourt Road is not for sale rather there is ongoing process to lease a section of it by the immediate past NUJ administration in the State.
(6) We therefore urge the general public to please disregard the purported sale of Imo NUJ Old press center as such information is misleading, false and baseless.
Signed
Ifeanyi Nwanguma JP
Chairman, Imo State Council
