The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash O. Amupitan, has issued a strong warning to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He stated that if the party proceeds with its disputed national convention and subsequently wins the 2027 presidential election, such a victory could be nullified with the runner-up declared the winner.
“If ADC goes ahead with their convention and even wins the 2027 election, the result may be declared invalid, and the candidate with the second-highest votes could be announced winner.”
This dramatic development could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election
The warning is linked to an ongoing leadership dispute within the ADC. The party is currently divided into rival factions, including one reportedly aligned with former Senate President David Mark, while another faction challenges his legitimacy.
The dispute is presently before the Federal High Court in Abuja, creating uncertainty over which faction INEC should officially recognize. Acting on judicial directives to maintain the status quo, INEC has withheld recognition of any faction pending final court judgment.
As a result, any candidate presented by an unrecognized faction risks being declared ineligible under Nigeria’s Electoral Act.
The ADC is currently battling a serious internal crisis, split into rival factions.
One camp is reportedly linked to former Senate President David Mark, while another group is fiercely challenging that leadership.
The SECOND-PLACE candidate could be declared PRESIDENT
Votes alone may not decide 2027.
But the ADC is not taking this lightly.
Spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi has accused powerful forces of trying to cripple the party ahead of 2027, calling it a targeted political attack.
Meanwhile, political heavyweights like Rabiu Kwankwaso are adding even more intrigue to the unfolding drama
With 2027 fast approaching, all eyes are now on:
The courts
INEC’s next move
ADC’s internal battle
One thing is certain:
If this crisis isn’t resolved, 2027 could become Nigeria’s most controversial election EVER.
In 2027, winning at the polls may not guarantee victor
