IYC Central Zone Protest In Yenagoa, Calls for Sack of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike

The streets of Bayelsa State capital, Yenagoa, witnessed a dramatic protest on Sunday as members of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Central Zone, staged a demonstration calling for the immediate sack of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, GSSRS.

Chanting solidarity songs and holding placards with bold inscriptions such as “Sack Wike Now!” and “Power Drunk Politicians Not Welcome!”, the protesters accused the former Rivers State Governor of being “power drunk” and “completely out of political track.”

According to the IYC Central Zone leadership, their protest is a moral call on the Federal Government to take decisive action by relieving Wike of his ministerial duties, which they claim are being carried out in a manner inconsistent with democratic values and public interest.

Speaking during the protest, a spokesperson for the group said, “Wike is no longer in touch with the realities of good governance. He is operating with arrogance and a thirst for power that is unhealthy for our democracy. He should be shown the way out.”

The protest was peaceful but loud in its message, drawing attention from passersby and sparking fresh debates on social media under hashtags such as #SackWikeNow and #IYCProtest.

As at press time, there has been no official response from the office of the Minister or the Federal Government.
