ZAINAB Kosoko Shotayo, a 29-year-old female councillor representing Ward C3 in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, has passed away after a brief illness.
She was not only the only female councillor in the Council but also the youngest member, serving as the Chief Whip of the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Legislative Arm.
Shotayo’s death occurred barely a week after another female councillor, Oluwakemi Rufai, died on August 13, 2025, in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area
The Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Seyi Jakande, directed that all activities at the council’s ICT workstations be suspended for the day as a mark of respect for the late councillor.
Jakande described Shotayo as “an exemplary leader who inspired many through her resilience and commitment to public service”.
– The National Youth Council of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye local branch also paid tribute to Shotayo, describing her as “a youth and a rising star among us”.Shotayo died on Monday, August 18, 2025, after being treated at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for an undisclosed illness.
According to reports, she was discharged around 9 pm on Monday night but passed away either after returning home or while being rushed back to the hospital.
