Lagos State Govt Set To Resume Monthly Environmental Sanitation On April 25th

The Lagos State Government has announced the return of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, nearly a decade after it was suspended.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed that the exercise will resume on April 25, 2026, and will be held on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

According to Wahab, residents are expected to clean their surroundings, clear drainage channels in front of their homes, and properly dispose of waste during the exercise.

He described the initiative as a collective responsibility aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and preventing flooding in the state.

He urged residents to cooperate with authorities and dedicate a few hours each month to keeping the environment clean, stressing that the government would ensure strict enforcement of the sanitation exercise

Wahab noted that the sanitation exercise was once part of Lagos’ culture before it was suspended in 2016 following a court ruling restricting movement during the exercise.

The commissioner said the government decided to reintroduce the practice following increasing waste management and environmental challenges across the state
