The Lagos State government has unveiled tour buses stating that the tours would take place on both land and water, emphasizing that the aim is to present Lagos, along with its growing transportation and tourism sectors, to the world.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, revealed this during a hosting event for Nigerians in the diaspora and enthusiasts of Lagos, which included a city tour to highlight the beauty of the metropolis.
Aregbe, in a statement released on Sunday, announced that the tour, themed “Lagos Tourism is Rising”, would be held monthly.
“Through this initiative, we aim to promote our cultural heritage and strengthen the bond between the diaspora community and Lagos. It offers an opportunity for everyone to admire scenic views, learn, and appreciate our rich cultural history,” Aregbe said.
He further noted that the initiative was designed to honour Nigerians in the diaspora and global admirers of Lagos for choosing the city as a preferred business and holiday destination.
Aregbe explained that the programme would foster deeper collaboration as the government recognises the diaspora community’s contributions to Lagos’s economy and festivities.
The statement added, “During the first tour, guests enjoyed a fun-filled experience with music, dance, and engaging conversations. The double-decker tour bus, motorbike convoy, and Lagos Ride vehicles navigated landmarks in Ikoyi, Lekki, Lagos Island, and surrounding areas.
“The group visited the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Nike Art Gallery, and concluded the event with a delightful dinner.”
The event was graced by dignitaries such as Khadijat Omotayo, Personal Assistant to the President on Constituency Affairs, and Oluwatoyin Atekoja, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos Ministry of Tourism.
Other notable attendees included Nike Davies-Okundaye, Femi Adebayo, DJ Six7even, DJ DSF, Timi Agbaje, Kelvin Manpower, Hannah Montana, and former Miss Universe Nigeria, among others.
