Lawyer Slams EFCC Hasty Declaration of Ex-Abia Commissioner Wanted

Abuja-based legal practitioner, Barrister Graham Ochogwu, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for declaring Prince Christopher Enweremadu wanted, describing the move as erroneous, illegal, and contemptuous of a valid court order restraining the agency from taking such action.
Enweremadu who served as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, was declared wanted by the anti-graft agency on Wednesday.

Ochogwu pointed to a subsisting Abia State High Court order restraining the EFCC, “its agents, servants, privies and/or officers,” from inviting, arresting, investigating, or prosecuting the 2nd and 3rd Respondents pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice, which he said was duly served and acknowledged.

He further stated that Enweremadu never received any formal invitation from the anti-graft agency at any of his registered addresses and was not notified, summoned, or served any court processes prior to the public declaration published by the EFCC.

Calling on the EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olukayode, to withdraw the notification, Ochogwu urged him to investigate officials of the Commission whom he alleged may have been compromised by political actors to “maliciously embarrass” Enweremadu.
