Miss Universe 2024 first Runner-up Chidimma Adetshina Quits pageantry, Beauty Contest- Gives Reasons

Miss Universe 2024 first runner-up, Chidimma Adetshina, has revealed her decision to step away from pageantry, a move she describes as essential for her personal growth and career development. This announcement comes on the heels of her historic achievement as the first Nigerian to become the first runner-up at Miss Universe, a feat she accomplished at the recently concluded Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, the beauty queen disclosed her plans to prioritize education and explore new opportunities in runway modeling and acting. “I want to put pageantry aside for now and focus more on my education and establishing who Chidimma is. I want to delve more into runway modeling, acting, and explore many other areas. There are so many things I would like to try and see where my potential can take me,” she explained.

Chidimma’s journey to international acclaim has not been without its challenges. Before representing Nigeria at Miss Universe, she faced a storm of controversy in South Africa. After initially entering the Miss South Africa pageant, she withdrew due to backlash over her nationality and allegations concerning her mother’s documentation by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs. She subsequently returned to Nigeria, where she triumphed at Miss Universe Nigeria, besting 24 other contestants to claim the crown.

Reflecting on the controversies surrounding her withdrawal from Miss South Africa, Chidimma assured her supporters that she would address the matter in detail after gaining a clearer understanding of the situation. “People are really interested in the story. And like I said, I haven’t gone home yet, I haven’t heard anything, and I haven’t sat down with a lawyer or anything. So I can’t just talk about things,” she stated. “Once I get everything sorted out, I will definitely open up and give people clarity on the matter,” she added.

Chidimma’s departure from pageantry marks a significant turning point in her career, as she embarks on a journey to redefine herself beyond beauty contests. Her aspirations in education, runway modeling, and acting signal a bold step towards a multifaceted future, ensuring that her legacy as a trailblazer in Nigerian pageantry remains firmly intact.
