Anambra State Government has sealed several shops at Relief Market for failing to comply with the governor’s directive mandating traders to open for business on Mondays.
The enforcement operation, which also covered the Plastic and Electronics markets, was led by the Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Council, Hon. Kenneth Akwobi, alongside other state government officials.
Akwobi said the affected shops would remain sealed for three days as a warning. He added that traders who continue to defy the government’s order by keeping their shops closed on Mondays risk having their premises sealed for several weeks.
One of the traders, Christopher Ekwe, told ABS that business activities in the market on Mondays are gradually returning to normal but noted that low patronage remains a major challenge.
A visit to Relief Market showed that approximately 80 percent of the shops were open, with commercial activities ongoing.
