No fewer than four scavengers have lost their lives and unspecified numbers wounded when a bomb exploded in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday, local sources said.
An eye witness said the incident occurred at Banki town, Bama local government area of the state when a mysterious object mistaken for scrap metal detonated in Banki, a border town in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, killing four scavengers on Friday, December 5, 2025.
“They thought it was a metal scrap. They took it to the town and the bomb exploded while they were trying to unbundle it, and it killed the four of them on the spot.”
The blast caused panic in the town as residents rushed to the scene, fearing additional explosives might still be nearby.
As of press time, authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
When contacted, Borno State Police spokesperson, Nanum Keneath, did not respond to calls or messages.
The source added that the deceased have buried according to Islamic rites.
