The Governorship Candidate of Social Democratic Party in Rivers State, Senator MAGNUS ABE has accused the State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in the state, DESMOND AKAWOR of sending hired thugs to attack him and his supporters in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Some suspected hired thugs had earlier today invaded the venue of a meeting of SDP in Oyigbo, destroyed properties before blocking the boundary between Tai and Oyigbo Local Government Areas preventing ABE and his entourage from accessing the area.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, Senator MAGNUS ABE narrated how armed youths allegedly led by the Personal Assistant to the State Chairman of PDP, blocked the road, stopped him and his team from going into Oyigbo for a scheduled political meeting.
“The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Rivers State, Ambassador Desmond Akawor sent hired armed thugs to first destroy the venue of my Party meeting in Oyigbo and asking them to block the boundary between Tai and Oyigbo so that I and my entourage will not have access to the meeting, they attacked me with different weapon.”
Senator ABE said his supporters have been harassed in different local government and communities, expressing concern that if people could still act in a manner that is strange to Democratic system just as he called on Nigerians to be aware of the happenings in Rivers State. “I meant with Desmond last week and we embraced each other as if, I thought he was a friend as he claimed, if those boys had killed me, he would have sent a condolence message to my wife pretending to be friend. This kind of Friend is not good for Democracy. I will go back to that community and campaign. Senator MAGNUS ABE, Governorship Candidate of SDP alleges”.
Senator ABE while encouraging his supporters not to be deterred about the incident, said he has reported the attack to tie commissioner of Police just as he called on relevant authorities to urgently intervene to forestall further occurrence.
When contacted the state Chairman of PDP, DESMOND AKAWOR denied any involvement in in the attack on SDP governorship candidate and his supporters, insisting that the senator is his friend that should have informed him of his trap to his place.
