Peter Obi Officially Declares Interest To Run As Presidential Candidate for 2027

Peter Obi, a key figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has indicated his intention to seek the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi made this known while addressing supporters during a campaign event for ADC candidates contesting the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections. The event took place at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

In his remarks, Obi made it clear that his political ambition within the party is aimed at the highest office, stressing that he is not interested in playing a subordinate role in the ADC’s long-term plans. He linked the AMAC election directly to his broader political aspirations, urging party members and residents to support the ADC candidate

According to him, victory in the AMAC poll would significantly strengthen his political journey and position within the party.

This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” Obi said.

Meanwhile, Obi’s supporters, particularly members of the Obidient Movement, have reportedly increased pressure on the ADC leadership to adopt him as the party’s presidential standard-bearer for 2027, insisting that the ticket should be reserved exclusively for him.

However, the ADC is also home to other prominent politicians with presidential ambitions, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, setting the stage for a potentially competitive contest within the party.
