Over 500 Secondary school school students will benefit from the Educational and writing aids donated by Rotary club of Port Harcourt Gateway and city valley to community Secondary school Eliozu
Donating the Items to the school management , The president of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Gateway, PRINCE EKPERE said Rotary serves communities around the world with unique needs and concerns as such The club aligned itself to the Rotary international Foundation’s mission and development efforts to further enhance learning by providing teaching aids and Equipments the will impact lives of the student for proper learning experience
The principal of Community Secondary School Eliozu Mrs. Janet Georgewill while receiving the Items thanked the Rotary International for donating the boards, markers and erasers to the school, she said before now, the students struggle with how to darken the Cement walls used as black board, since charcoal used for darkening the boards are not easily available or provided as at when needed, She said “now that we have gotten white Boards markers, the Teachers would be able to teach instead of dictating notes to students like in the past and urge Rotarians present at the event to continue to impact humanity.
Earlier On Rotary Distract PAG IZUORA OKAFOR Explained that Rotary 6th area of focus is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. He said Rotary is striving hard to close the gap of 775 million people over the age of 15 are still illiterate by proving these basic Items. which also include safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene, mobilize communities to help prevent the spread of major diseases such as polio, HIV/AIDS, and malaria “We will continue to carry out life-changing projects that will create hope and lasting peace in our host communities developmental efforts using Rotary seven areas of focus as mentioned before which is what we are doing here today with education and Literacy ‘
Representative of the community development chairman of Eliozu Elder ThankGod Amadi expressed Joy over the gesture by the Rotary clubs, He hinted that the school land was donated by His late Father who has always longed for quality Education, betterment and welfare of the society especially the community by donating the land free of charge was to ensure that the children from Eliozu community get access to basic Education. He said Like Oliver twist, we would ask more from well meaning individuals like you to also assist the School with blocks of Convivence/ Toilet facilities because the senior secondary shares the available toilet with the Junior secondary Elder Amadi said access to improved sanitation, and hygiene will also help the children in staying within the school and reduce the number of excuses from the students seeking to use the available restroom and bushes.
