Plateau University Bokkos Suspends Academic Activities For 10 Days, After Gunmen Attack

In response to the tragic killing of a 200-level Computer Science student, Dading Jordan, the management of Plateau University, Bokkos, suspended academic activities for 10 days.

Mr. Yakubu Ayuba, the Registrar of the university, revealed this decision in a statement issued on Saturday in Jos.
The suspension comes after gunmen attacked the nearby community of Chikam, claiming the life of the student.

Initially, the university had declared a two-day mourning period in honour of the deceased student.

However, recognizing the need for improved security measures, the management opted to extend the closure.
According to Ayuba, the suspension aims to mitigate risks to the university community and allow for a conducive environment for learning.

Consequently, ongoing first-semester examinations have been halted, with plans to resume on Thursday, May 2.
To assist stranded students, the university has arranged transportation services to Barkin Ladi.

The statement read

“Following the sad incident that occurred in Plateau University, Bokkos, and the surrounding communities, management has taken the painful decision to close the University for 10 days with effect from Friday, April 19.

”This decision is to allow the security situation to improve and reduce human risk on the university community.

”Accordingly, the ongoing first semester examinations are hereby suspended and will resume on Thursday, May 2,” he said.
