The Nigerian Credit Corporation known as CrediCorp has Empowered 3700 Women across the country.
According to the organizers this is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, the Nigerian Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) on Wednesday, June 25,2025 kick started the empowerment of three thousand, seven hundred women in its Queen rider Keke initiative programme.
The Corporation in partnership with
SIMBA, GIGMILE, GAMMA MOBILITY and others kick started the Renewed Hope vision with empowerment of secured financial independence for Nigerian women.
Speaking with Journalists at the sideline of the event, in PortHarcourt, Rivers State, Uzoma Nwagba, the Managing Director/CEO of Nigeria Consumer Credit Corporation,CREDICORP said
“What informed this initiative is President Tinubu’s Mandate. He said “president Tinubu is a man who has been very passionate about consumers credit for many decades. It is not today that this started”.
“And it is his idea that people should be able to access goods and services that better their lives and pay for it over time.
“So, we should have a credit system that works for all. So civil servants don’t have to wait till retirement to build their homes and then live in a house of their own after they retire or have a car after they retire.
“They should be able to get it at the begining of their service and pay over time The same with, non civil servants, Salaries workers, entrepreneurs, artisans, should be able to get a solar panel, get a vehicle, renovate their home now, access credit, pay over time.
“We are deliberate, about also channeling people with purchasing power, people now have credit, channeling them to buy locally made goods, then we can also grow industry.
“So what you see today is women that we work with or a group of women across the country, several women working with Gamma Mobility who we are empowering to get their own vehicles.
“In this case tricycles. So the women will be owning tricycles of their own and will be running their own urban transportation business funded by consumers credit.
“And they will be paying daily over time. We work with the financial institution, a microfinance bank and GAMMA Mobility is the navigator of what we call Queen rider. So with this kekes you see here, same thing that is happening across the country.
“And there is this idea that when you empower women with credit, you also make them productive actors, meaning that they are actors in the economy. They can also empower themselves and their households and because they are driving locally assembled vehicles, we also empower those industries.
“So it is multiple goals been done at once. over the country today, the Queen riders programme is 3,700 women. Of course we cannot be everywhere at the same time. So we are looking at one hundred per state for a start. So we are here in PortHarcourt. The programme is across the country and this is even just a start. But there are focus on women in particular, putting them in this high earning employment, high productive economy, so that they can be empowered and empower their communities.
“The beneficiaries are actually organized by GAMMA Mobility a series of partners that we have, and they work in this corporative groups. So women who are already seeking empowerment and whose habit are tested and who can also guarantee each other. In that process of guaranteeing each other, they are able to secure the credit. So they pay daily for the use of this keke.
“Today they are owning the vehicle from day one. And they will be able to pay over time.
“We also have a few other initiatives. Other initiatives that are not about mobility, we focus on digital devices, especially for young people, getting smart phones, laptops to be able to get up the digital economy and be more productive We have programmes for youths, it is not just for people who are advanced in their careers. So we are targeting the young people from a very impressionable age to go and access credit and better their lives, pay back on time no matter how little credit you access. And that record of you being consistent with credit repayment allows you to get more and more credit”
In his opening remarks, Samuel Esiri, representative of GAMMA MOBILITY, said “the queen rider programme is far more than the product launch, it is the resolute proclamation that Nigerian women deserve unhindered access to the tools of economic empowerment. This bold vision comes to life through the remarkable synergy of our partners whose collective effort has made it possible.
“I express our deepest gratitude to CREDICORP, we are thankful for your leadership and not only for the resources and coordination you bring in administratively, but for the clarity and vision
“One where women are at the centre of economic renewal.Thank you for backing this programme with the National ambition, structured access to credit and with vision that leads to industrial growth.
“The TVS and SIMBA group are steadfast vehicle partners with dedication to local assemble, producing over a thousand motorcycles and tricycles made in Nigeria positions you as a cornerstone of our mobility ecosystem and a catalyst for job creation. The microfinance bank, your expertise in financing grassroot entrepreneurs ensures that opportunity is not just accessible but affordable and sustainable for the women that we serve.
“To the National Automotive Design and Development Council, your support anchors this initiative with innovation and local value, ensuring that Nigeria’s mobility revolution is built on home grown ingenuity.
“AS GAMMA Mobility, we are not merely providing motorcycles and tricycles, we are unlocking possibilities for women who have been excluded from traditional financial systems, overlook the ownership opportunities and under represented in the mobility sector.
“Through the Queen rider programme, this women will own their own vehicles, chattering barriers to vehicle ownership for them, they will own their income, furthering sustainable livelihoods and they will own their futures riding towards independence and pride.
