A pastor who was recently suspended by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Ayorinde AdeBello, has publicly refuted allegations of homosexuality, which he says led to his suspension.
RCCG announced AdeBello’s suspension, along with that of another pastor, in a memo dated October 28, 2024. Signed by National Overseer Sunday Akande, the memo called for an investigation and underscored the church’s stance against homosexuality, rooted in biblical principles.
In response, AdeBello addressed the accusations on Instagram, stating, “I never engaged in sodomy with male teenagers.” He explained that his initial silence had been wrongly interpreted as an admission of guilt, prompting him to set the record straight.
AdeBello further claimed that a WhatsApp screenshot, circulating online as evidence against him, was taken out of context. He clarified that the conversation in question was part of a youth group discussion about male reproductive health and self-esteem.
He stated, “In recent days, accusations were made against me and others on a blog called Gist Lover. I initially refrained from responding, following advice, as I wasn’t the only one mentioned. It seemed the post aimed to drive engagement.
“However, as these accusations have now escalated to criminal claims, I feel the need to clarify. My silence has been misunderstood as guilt.
“I have NEVER sought sexual favors from any male in exchange for support or opportunities. Only God grants favor and elevation.
“The questions in the screenshot were part of a discussion in a male youth group about reproductive health and self-esteem. We discussed proper hygiene, choosing the right underwear, and encouraged confidence in their unique physical qualities.
It’s deeply troubling to see that this conversation has been misrepresented to paint me as someone involved in inappropriate acts with male teenagers.”
