Relief International Africa has commended the Nigeria Police led by CP Olatuji Disu and security agencies in Rivers State, for their exemplary conduct during the #EndBadGovernance protests. The organization appreciated the professionalism and discipline displayed by these forces, contrasting them with reports of more aggressive actions by security personnel in other regions, such as Abuja, Kaduna, Borno, and Kano, where incidents of teargas deployment and provocation towards peaceful protesters were reported
.The press release also acknowledged the proactive and compassionate approach of the State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS. The Governor’s direct engagement with the protesters was highlighted as a positive example of leadership and responsiveness to public concerns.
Relief International Africa faults the federal government of Nigeria for funding counter protesters which has further inflamed the embers of destruction, anger and more chaos in the face of the protest instead finding a way to dialogue with the protesters who are very unhappy with the economic reality of the country.
Relief International Africa called on the federal government to meet the demands of the protesters and ensure the protection of citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and expression. The organization expressed solidarity with the Nigerian people in their pursuit of good governance and justice. It emphasized that the planned protests were scheduled to last for 10 days, urging the government to allow peaceful demonstrations without fear of brutality or intimidation.
The organization cautioned security operatives against excessive force, reminding that the world and the human rights community are closely watching the events unfold.
