RIVCHPP Partners SUBEB, Plans Health Insurance Enrolment Of Children In Public Schools

Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) has planned on enrolling pupils in all public primary schools across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state into its health insurance scheme.

The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP, Dr Vetty Agala, made the disclosure on Thursday, 12th February, 2026, when she led her team on an advocacy visit to the Chairman and management of the State Universal Basic Education Board, in Port Harcourt .

According to Dr. Agala, recently, the state recorded a high level of chronically malnourished children, stating that her agency is willing and ready to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure our children always remain healthy.

The Executive Secretary of RIVCHPP, who also used the medium to solicit the support of SUBEB to see that all staff and teachers under the board are enrolled into RIVCHPP’s health insurance plans, enumerated the benefits that will accrue to the enrollees.

Dr. Agala also used the medium of the visit to appreciate the Chairman of the board, Barr. Sam Ogeh, for being part of the process in 2019 that birthed RIVCHPP, as House Committee Chairman on Health in the Assembly, assuring the board that with the investments and interest of the state government in the health sector, all RIVCHPP’s enrollees would get the best medical services at the various health facilities across the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon. Sam Ogeh, who commended the functioning of RIVCHPP, stated that health insurance is the right way to go.

Hon. Ogeh, however, enjoined the management of RIVCHPP to be more aggressive with their advocacy campaigns to create more awareness among residents of the state who truly need to benefit from the laudable programmes of the government.

The SUBEB Chairman then pledged the desire and willingness of the board to collaborate with RIVCHPP, assuring the management of RIVCHPP that, considering the benefits of the scheme to the people of the state, the board would do everything to make the programme succeed.

As part of the visit, the Executive Secretary of RIVCHPP presented some RIVCHPP promotional materials to SUBEB.
