The Deputy Inspector General of Police(DIG) Information Communication and Technology(ICT) in charge of South South region, DIG Daniel Sokari Pedro on Monday visited Rivers state in continuation of his tour of six state commands under him
DIG Pedro in his address said he came to discuss certain things with his officers and also see how to encourage them.
He said “My main reason for coming is because I am on top of the South South region comprising six state commands. I started my tour from Edo to Bayelsa,Delta to Cross Rivers,to Rivers and Akwa-Ibom will be the last state.
“I came here to encourage the CP who is an excellent Police officer. He is a man of honour. I am very lucky to have officers(CPs) who are diligent and committed. Their Governors are talking good about them, particularly CP Disu is doing well
“I will keep on encouraging CP Disu.Even without encouragement, He is doing well. Both the officers and the CP are doing well. I gathered informations on my own. The sitrep I get from this zone shows it is a difficult zone in terms of terrain and criminality. I will always encourage them to do better I am afraid when CP Disu leaves here one day, it may be difficult to fill his gap.
“I used indices of crime such as Cultism, Armed Robbery and Kidnapping in the month of April to appraise the states. .The least incident of kidnapping in the six state commands was Rivers in south-South.
“In cases of Armed Robbery, Rivers and Bayelsa had just one each in the same month. On cultism, Rivers and Bayelsa Commands came last with just three cases each out of 35.We all know that crime is a big venture. Police role is to complement other security forces. If you want to sleep with your two eyes close, you have a role to play as civilian.
“Stakeholders should encourage the Police. What can you do to complement the effort of the Police”.
In his welcome address, Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu said “the visit of the DIG is coming at the right time when his advice is needed to spice up the officers of the command to perform optimally.
“On assumption of duty I went round to appraise the security situation.More disturbing was killing of SP Bako, the DPO of Ahoada Police Division. They were flushed out after my assumption of office.
CP Disu stated that the Rivers State Police Command has good working relationship with the state Government.
The Rivers Police Boss listed shortage of Anti-riot equipment, manpower, operational vehicles as some challenges facing the command while pleading with the IGP to to look into it.
Our correspondent reports that Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIG) zone 16, comprising Rivers and Bayelsa Police commands, Paul Omata and other senior officers were in attendance.
