Rivers House of Assembly Members Allegedly Placed on Travel Watchlist

The Neighbourhood Newspaper Team

It has emerged that Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have been placed on watchlist.

A source familiar with the development, who informed this medium on Saturday under strict confidentiality as he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said that it was a measure taken for “administrative purposes”.

The source disclosed that while their placement on security watchlist does not bar them from traveling out of the country, if they wanted, he explained that it would trigger alarm should any of them arrive any Nigerian official exit point.

The source further said that what this implies is that being on Nigeria’s watchlist, any time any of them arrives any Nigerian airport, land borders, and seaports, an alert is triggered creating cross-alarm mechanism within the country’s security network. As a result, they will be delayed by Immigration Officers who shall interrogate and notify sister security agencies.
Their trip may be temporarily stoped pending instructions.

The source also disclosed that the Assembly’s Principal Officers might soon have dates with security agencies.

The lawmakers had last Wednesday plunged Rivers State into another round of political crisis when it convened an “urgent” sitting just to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Their move has already drawn nationwide condemnation.
