The Rivers State police command has confirmed the explosion that rocked the Secretariat of Action People’s Party, APP, in the state in the early hours of Monday.

Speaking to newsmen in a telephone,  the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Olatunji Disu, who confirmed the development, said on receiving the news of the explosion Anti-Bomb Squad of the command was quickly mobilised.

Disu said the team was able to move people away from the area where the explosion occurred, tasking residents on vigilance.

He said: “I heard about this yesterday. We deployed our team to the area. Anti-Bomb squad has been sent here. I will not say much about it for now because we have not gotten a full report.

“Everybody should be concerned about their safety and security. Like I quickly have to send in our men because wherever there is an explosion there is always going to be a second one. So we usually move people away from the area that is what my team succeeded in doing yesterday.”The Advocate reports that no casualty has been confirmed from the explosion that rocked the Secretariat of the Action People’s Party in Rivers State in the dead hours of the night.

It was gathered that the explosive believed to be a dynamite was detonated around 1 am and residents said they heard heavy sound from the scene.

Officials of the party said substances suspected to be dynamite had exploded at the party office located in Government Reserved Area of Port Harcourt, 1am Monday.

Although, there have been no known report of casualty in the incident, but police said they has arrested the situation.

This explosion is coming amidst speculations that the governor of the state, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has concluded plans to pitch tent with the APP following the lingering crisis between him and his estranged political godfather, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.

However, it is believed that the incident was orchestrated by some political thugs to distract Fubara from moving to the APP.

The attack is coming amidst speculations that the Governor Fubara, has concluded plans to move with his supporters to the APP following the alleged hijack of the People’s Democratic Party in the state by his predecessor and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Chief Wike.

A member of the party who gave his name simply as Chimene said: “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack about 3am today.

“This is politically motivated and there is no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits. “
