Suspend Scheduled LG Primaries -Rivers APC Writes New National Chairman, Seeks Official Recognition

A factional state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Emeka Beke, has formally written to the party’s newly elected national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, seeking official recognition of his leadership by the national party.

In the letter submitted alongside a petition at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, Beke urged the national chairman to suspend the scheduled Rivers APC local government primary elections currently organised by the Tony Okocha-led executive committee. He requested that the primaries be placed under the supervision of his faction’s executive committee

The petitioners described themselves as members of the Beke-led State Executive Committee and congratulated Prof. Yilwatda on his emergence as APC National Chairman.

“We believe that your emergence as National Chairman could not have come at a better moment than this,” the letter read.

They recalled the legal battle initiated following the attempted unlawful dissolution of the Rivers State APC leadership in 2023, citing Suit No. PHC/3592/CS/2023 filed by the State Secretary, Sam Etetegwung, challenging the dissolution’s validity.

Appealing to the national chairman, Beke’s faction requested: “Suspend the scheduled local government primaries of the APC, Rivers State, led by Chief Tony Okocha, and direct the Chief Emeka Beke-led Executive Committee to superintend the entire process, the Chief Emeka Beke-led Executive Committee being duly recognised by law.”

Concluding, the faction expressed readiness to collaborate with the national leadership to advance the party’s ideals, particularly within Rivers State.
