Tension in Bakassi Peninsula As Separatist Group Clash With Cameroon Forces

Tension erupted on Frida in the Bakassi Peninsula following a brief exchange of gunfire between separatist fighters, identified as the Black Marine, and Cameroon Gendarmes in Isangele Subdivision.

Reports indicate that government forces foiled an attempted invasion of the Isangele Divisional Headquarters by the pro-Biafra-linked group.
The Gendarmes allegedly opened fire to repel the advancing militants, prompting the separatists to return fire in a short but intense confrontation.

No casualties were recorded, as the fighters retreated immediately after the exchange.

Security analysts believe the incident was an attempt by the separatist group to retake the administrative quarters of the region — a territory noted for its strategic importance and history of border disputes between Nigeria and Cameroon.

When contacted, the Director of Operations of the Biafra Nations League (BnL), Mr. Henry Edet, declined speaking to the press regarding the incident.

Authorities in the area are yet to release an official statement, though security sources confirm that military presence has been reinforced to maintain calm and prevent further escalation.
