Tension Soars In Pakistan-Controlled Kashmir As India Launched Series Of Strikes After Deadly Militant Attack

Tensions are rising in Kashmir after India launched strikes at Pakistan-controlled portions of the contested territory.

Pakistan claims to have shot down two Indian planes.

It follows the k!lling of dozens of Indians in an Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir, which they blame on militants backed by Pakistan.

A spokesperson for Pakistan’s military says two civilians in Kotli, in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, and a child in Bahwalpur, Pakistan, have been k!lled in India’s strikes,

India’s strikes come in retaliation to a militant attack that k!lled at least 26 people, mostly tourists, in the resort town of Pahalgam in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22.

Militants opened fire on people who were visiting Baisaran, a mountain-top meadow three miles (5 km) from Pahalgam.

Some survivors of the attack said that Hindu men were specifically targeted by the gunmen.

Pakistan has denied involvement in the att@cks, but Indian police say two of the four militants they suspect for the att@ck were Pakistani citizens.

Both India and Pakistan have announced a range of retaliatory measures against one another including closing borders and suspending a river water sharing treaty.

Troops from both sides have also traded small arms fire.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has been speaking to Geo TV.

He says that India launched missiles at Pakistan from within its own airspace.

He adds that the strikes hit civilian areas and calls India’s claim of “targeting terrorist camps” false.

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry adds that 12 more civilians were injured in Ahmedpur Sharqia in Bahwalpur.
