President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the return of Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
The directive was announced on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Dembos, who was first appointed in October 2023, had stepped aside following recent management changes at the agency. With this new directive, he is expected to continue and finish his three-year term.
The President also asked Mr. Ayo Adewuyi to return to his position as Executive Director of News. Adewuyi, who was appointed in 2024, will now complete his tenure, which runs until 2027.
“Adewuyi was appointed by President Tinubu in 2024. The new directive effectively reversed the previously announced appointments of a director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises,” the statement read.
Just last month, the President had approved a new set of leaders for the NTA. They included Rotimi Richard Pedro from Lagos as Director-General, Karimah Bello from Katsina as Executive Director of Marketing, Stella Din from Plateau as Executive Director of News, and Sophia Issa Mohammed from Adamawa as Managing Director of NTA Enterprises Limited.
According to the Presidency, those earlier appointments were intended to strengthen the role of national broadcasting. The latest order now replaces those choices, as the President reaffirms his commitment to use the NTA as a tool for unity, cohesion, and soft diplomacy
