Two Suspected Child Traffickers Arrested in Oyigbo After Confessing To ₦800,000 Deal

In a disturbing case that has ignited outrage online, two men suspected of child trafficking were apprehended in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The suspects, part of an alleged four-person trafficking syndicate, were reportedly caught following a two-day community-led investigation.

The revelation was made in a post shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by user @PH_Socials. The accompanying video shows the suspects being confronted by members of the public, with a voice off-camera accusing them of being behind multiple child trafficking cases in the area.

“These are the people who have been trafficking children in Oyigbo,” the speaker said in the video. “We caught them after tracking them for two days. They confessed to collecting ₦800,000 for one of the children.”

The two women believed to be part of the group were not present in the video, with reports indicating that only the two male suspects had been apprehended so far. Their confessions reportedly implicated the women as accomplices.

The viral video and post have triggered an emotional wave of reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing fury and frustration over rising child trafficking cases.

Here are some of the public’s reactions:

@PurpleKingTony: “This is heartbreaking. Can’t imagine the trauma for the child.”

@IbsurajMohd: “We need more community collaboration like this to root out crime.”

@WendyHunt1986: “The people who caught them should be rewarded. People like this don’t deserve to be walking free.”

Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the case. However, concerned citizens are urging law enforcement to fully investigate the trafficking network and ensure all those involved face justice.
