UK Police Arrest 45 Year Old Somalia Born Suspect in Terror Attack on Two Jewish Men

The Metropolitan Police has classified a stabbing attack in north London as an act of terrorism, confirming the arrest of a 45-year-old suspect, Essa Suleiman. The suspect, a British citizen born in Somalia, is in custody for the Wednesday attack in Golders Green, where two Jewish men—34-year-old Shloime Rand and 76-year-old Moshe Shine—were stabbed.

Police said Suleiman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, with the incident now being treated as a terror-related offence.

Authorities also disclosed that the suspect had previously been referred to the UK government’s counter-extremism programme in 2020.

Reacting to the development, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack in strong terms.

The antisemitic attack in Golders Green is utterly appalling,” Starmer said in a statement posted on social media.
He added, “Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain. Thank you to Shomrim, Hatzola and the police for acting swiftly. Those responsible will be brought to justice.”

Emergency responders, including community security and medical volunteer groups, assisted police at the scene as investigations continue into the motive behind the attack.
