Video: Wike Looses Polling Unit To APP Candidate Despite Massive Protest At RSIEC Office

Rivers state local government election this morning began on peaceful note, despite the absence of police to man the process.

our correspondent who monitored the election noted that materials arrived early in some polling units where materials never arrived in some places till the curtains was drawn to a close. gunshots were heard in Ogbu-nabali area, sources said no one was injured as some electorate gathered to collect Rice, after voting.

Significant of note is the Rumukpirikom area where the minister of FCT Nyesom Wike comes from recording violence as revealed that earlier some people had come into the community and announced that people should not come out for the polls.

It was gathered that when the electoral officers were about to arrive at the ward in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, armed bandits arrived in the area, as well.It was gathered that the unidentified gunmen who arrived in the area under heavy gunfire took the area hostage scaring people from coming out to participate in the election.It was also gathered that one person sustained a bullet injury and has been rushed to a health facility for treatment.

Results trickling from that area shows that the former governor of Rivers State and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike was dealt a serious blow in the ongoing local government elections in the State.

With results announced so far from Obio-akpor local government area of the state, where Wike comes from, shows that he lost his polling unit to the All People’s Party (APP).This follows with the candidate of the Labour party coming close with second position while APC which is the main opposition party in the state coming a distant third

Earlier in the day supporters of current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, staged a protest today in Port Harcourt, calling on the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, to comply with a recent High Court judgment regarding the ongoing local government elections.

The protest which drew a large crowd above was organised in response to what Wike’s supporters described as irregularities in the electoral process,

Most resident who spoke to EastwestReporters described the Election as Very peaceful without the police.
