The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development joins the global community today, April 2nd, 2026, in commemorating World Autism Awareness Day, a day set aside to raise awareness, promote understanding, and advocate for the rights and well-being of persons living with autism.
Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects how individuals communicate, interact, and experience the world around them. While each person with autism is unique, they all deserve equal opportunities, dignity, acceptance, and support to live fulfilling lives.
The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, emphasizes the importance of building an inclusive society where children and adults on the autism spectrum are not stigmatized or marginalized, but embraced, supported, and empowered. She calls on families, educators, caregivers, and the general public to foster patience, understanding, and compassion toward individuals with autism.
The Commissioner also commends the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his unwavering commitment to the protection and welfare of vulnerable groups across the state. She further applauds the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, for her consistent advocacy and impactful initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women, children, and persons with special needs, including those living with autism.
“ As a Ministry, we remain committed to protecting the rights of children and vulnerable persons, including those living with autism. We will continue to advocate for policies, programs, and partnerships that promote early diagnosis, access to quality education, healthcare services, and social inclusion,” the Commissioner stated.
Hon. Abdallah further urges stakeholders across sectors to intensify efforts in raising awareness, eliminating discrimination, and creating enabling environments where individuals with autism can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
On this important day, the Ministry calls on all residents of Edo State to support the cause by spreading awareness and embracing diversity, recognizing that every individual, regardless of their condition, has unique abilities and valuable contributions to make.
Together, we can build a more inclusive and compassionate Edo State.
Signed:
Hon. Eugenia Abdallah
