Arube Otor, a renowned 55-year-old highlife musician from Delta State, is set to make headlines with a remarkable and unusual marital event. On Sunday, January 19, 2025, he will marry three women on the same day. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Anglican Church Field at London Base, Uzere Kingdom, in the Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Dr. Arube, popularly known as Isoko Fela One, will marry Oghenekome, Ewoma, and Oghenekaro, all from different parts of Delta State. In a viral marriage invitation, the musician is seen in matching attire with his three future wives, suggesting a strong unity between them. The event, which has sparked significant attention, will be the culmination of a process that began with traditional rites last year.
According to Emperor Efih (Oscar), Dr. Arube’s foster son, the initial plan was for the musician to marry four women, but one of them decided to withdraw for personal reasons. Efih added that the decision to marry multiple wives was made to “cut costs,” as Dr. Arube had previously been married to two m women 20 years as one of whom later divorced him.
The musician’s history is as colorful as his upcoming wedding. Dr. Arube, who has been a prominent figure in Delta’s music scene for over 30 years, began his career as a driver while also pursuing his passion for music. Over time, he formed his own dance band, Arube, which has produced more than ten albums. His musical style, known as Isoko highlife, has earned him the title of a music legend in the region.
Interestingly, none of Dr. Arube’s three wives is from his home community. Oghenekome is from Lagos-lyede in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Ewoma hails from Oruamudhu Ozoro Kingdom in Isoko North, and Oghenekaro is from Uroto Quarter, Ozoro Kingdom in Isoko North. Two of the women have already borne children for Dr. Arube, while the third is stm awaiting her first child.
Despite the complexities of his marital arrangements, Dr. Arube’s decision to marry three women at once has gained attention and sparked debate, not only for the scale of the event but also for its cultural significance in the context of modern-day Delta.
