6 Foods That Can Remedy Irregular Menstrual Cycle, Relieves Cramps

Medically known as oligomenorrhea, an irregular period is a common problem among women today.

There is just no escaping this time of the month when women generally feel fatigued and stressful.

No matter what it is, there is just no escaping in this. Caused due to common various factors such as weight loss, underlying medical condition, eating disorder, hormonal imbalance or even due to a sedentary lifestyle or others, irregular periods can be life-threatening.

So here are home remedies that can give you some relief and regulate your menstrual cycle.

1.  Ginger is very effective in regulating menstrual flow and also relieving cramps. Consuming ginger in the form of juice is said to be a good home remedy for dealing with irregular periods. All you need to do is boil 1tbsp of ginger, mix it with sugar and water and drink the mixture three times a day after every meal.

2. Papaya

Eating unripe papaya helps in contracting the muscle fibers in the uterus, thus regulating the menstrual flow. Green papaya should be consumed regularly for a few months to ensure you get regular periods each month. However, it is advised to not have papaya during periods.

3. Cumin

To ensure you get regular periods, all you need to do is to drink cumin soaker water every morning. Soak 2 spoons of cumin in water and keep it overnight and drink it the next morning. Also, cumin is loaded with other health benefits such as it improves digestion, promotes weight loss, helps in preventing colon cancer and others.

4. Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a spice that gives a warming effect to your body and helps in regularizing periods and balancing hormones. It also helps relieve menstrual pain/cramps. You can mix the cinnamon powder in milk or include it in any of your food recipes.

5. Fennel seeds

Fennel seeds contain Emmenagogue, a compound that helps in boosting menstruation. Also known as saunf in Hindi, Fennel seeds regulate menstrual cycles and relieve cramps as with its antispasmodic properties. You can drink fennel tea or mix 2 tsp of fennel seeds in a glass of water, keep it overnight and strain the water and drink it in the morning.

6. Sesame seeds

Known as ‘til’ in Hindi, sesame seeds are heat-producing and help in regulating your period flow. You can have sesame seeds two times a day with hot water or can fry them and consume it 2-3 times a day.
