97 Lawyers Volunteer To Defend ADC’s Interim Leaderships Against ‘Fake Lawsuit’ Filed by APC In Court

In what it describes as a battle for truth and democratic integrity, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has assembled a 97-member legal team to contest a lawsuit filed against its interim leadership by individuals the party says are not even its members.

The ADC, in a statement released on Tuesday, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring a fraudulent case in a bid to destabilize the party’s rising national coalition. The legal team, led by Barrister Mohammed Sheriff, said the suit contains names of non-party members and bears the markings of political sabotage.

“The supposed plaintiffs are not registered with the ADC in either Kogi or Nasarawa. This entire case is a fabrication designed to distract and delegitimize our new leadership,” the party said.

This response comes just days after a strategic meeting in Abuja between Senator David Mark, the party’s interim national chairman, and members of the ADC’s Kogi chapter. Mark, a former Senate President, assured party stakeholders that his leadership will be guided by inclusiveness and transparency. “I don’t own this party more than any other member… All Nigerians must come together and take ownership of the ADC,” he said.

Calling for unity across party lines, Mark noted that the party’s focus remains on building a credible alternative that restores public trust in governance. He cautioned against complacency and urged citizens to become active participants in shaping Nigeria’s political future.

Meanwhile, the ADC took a swipe at the APC, accusing Tinubu’s party of deploying “Machiavellian tactics” rather than addressing the worsening security and economic situation under its watch. “If they admitted that insecurity was bad and promised to improve it, but instead made it worse, should Nigerians continue to support them? The answer is no,” Mark said.

The party maintained that the case filed against Mark and former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola was not just legally questionable but morally bankrupt. According to Barrister Sheriff, the sheer number of lawyers volunteering their services is a testament to the party’s credibility and the gravity of the attack it faces. “We are fully prepared to defend the ADC and its leaders against this politically motivated attack,” Sheriff said.

The ADC leadership described the suit as a distraction from the momentum being built across the country through the newly announced opposition coalition. The party warned that efforts to derail that momentum would fail.

Mark concluded with a message of unity: “Let us work together to rebuild this nation for future generations.”
